The chart above is a colour grading chart comparing different technologies for the same descriptions. Diamonds graded to the top are normally more expensive than diamonds graded to the bottom subject to Colour Clarity and Cut (exceptions are - Natural Coloured Diamonds ie. Red Blue Orange etc.)
 
The colour of a diamond is determined by comparing it against an internationally approved series of master stones. As with all parts of the certification process, each stone is examined by several graders before determining the colour. 
 
A very important aspect of the grading process is the laboratory illumination. Most Laboratories have standardised on the D65 lamp which has a colour temperature of 6500 degrees Kelvin and meets the CIE standard (International Commission on Illumination)
  
Diamonds are found with a range of colours, from light yellow or brown through to the rarest, which have no colour at all.
 
 
Diamonds graded to the left are normally more valuable than diamonds graded to the right.
