Edge: Plain. Stamped with the issue number. Both these medals: 63.

Obverse: The coat of arms of Stellenbosch with motto: FORTE ET SUPERBUS on a scroll below. Signed ALS below left.

Reverse: The facade of the Kruithuis (gunpowder magazine), known as the Braak, now a museum, with mountains behind. Signed: LDL below right. Below: STELLENBOSCH / 1679 -1979. Silver medal stamped with the SA Mint mark: S925 for sterling silver.

Notes: Also made in gold. The gold-silver-bronze set comes in an oblong red case with the coat of arms of Stellenbosch and: 1679-1979 below in gold on the outside of the lid. Lined on the inside with white silk marked: SAM and red velvet.
