20 YEARS PROTEA SERIES DEMOCRACY IN SOUTH AFRICA

On the 27th April 2014, South Africa celebates its 20th Year of Democracy.

Standing in the amphitheatre of the mighty Union buildings, Nelson R Mandela took an oath as President to lead a troubled country and its people into a new future built on the foundation of freedom and democracy came at a great cost to countless individuals, fortunately however, this new democracy was steered by great leaders with vision, compassion and forgiveness. The new Constitution pointed towards a united, non-racial, non-sexist, democratic and prosperous society based on justice, equality, the rule of law and the inalienable human right of all.

Paying tribute to South Africa's successful democracy in spite of its history, the South African mint celebrates this momentous event with its "silent ambassadors" in pure gold and silver. Each of these coins reflect a country that is proud of its achievements over the past 20 years.
