The World Platinum Investment Council (WPIC) forecasts a third consecutive annual supply deficit in 2025, estimated at 850,000 ounces. Platinum surged above $1,730 an ounce, hitting a 14-year high, as strong safe-haven demand and tightening supply

supports the metal.

DESCRIPTION:

Platinum is a dense, lustrous, silvery-white metal known for its exceptional durability, malleability, and resistance to corrosion and high temperatures. Its stability makes it valuable for industrial uses like catalytic converters, laboratory equipment, and medical devices, as well as for jewellery, where it is used for its strength, hypoallergenic properties, and lasting shine.

------------------------------------------------------

Platinum was first used by pre-Columbian South Americans, but its European discovery is often credited to Spanish conquistadors who encountered it while panning for gold in what is now Colombia. They called it "platina" or "little silver" because it was an unwanted impurity that couldn't be melted. European scientists like Julius Caesar Scaliger noted it in 1557, but it wasn't until the 18th century that scientists like Antonio de Ulloa and H.T. Scheffer began to recognise its properties as a distinct element and develop methods to work with it.
