"An African antelope of the Tragelaphus species, with white stripes and magnificent corkscrew shaped, ridged horns" seems to be factually indisputable yet sadly lacking in description of the magnificent Kudu, the epitome of grace and beauty among hoofed animals. In continuation of the SA Mint's Natura Series of Numismatic Gold Coins, and as a worthy successor to the Big Five series, the obverse of the 1999 editions portrays the King of the Antelope. The Kudu bull. Monarch of Africa.
