2009 WHITE RHINO
NATURA PRESTIGE SET "SAFARI THROUGH SOUTH AFRICA"
A new theme called SAFARI THROUGH SOUTH AFRICA began in 2009 and features The White Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum) to celebrate the successful "Save the Rhino" project which saved these highly endangered species from certain extinction. Four of the world's five species of Rhinos are "Critically Endangered" and face an extreme risk of extinction in the wild. In 1970, there were around 70,000 Rhinos worldwide in total. Today there are fewer than 18,000 Rhinos surviving in the wild around the world, of which 80% are found in South Africa.

NATURA PRESTIGE SET "SAFARI THROUGH SOUTH AFRICA"
The Natura's SAFARI THROUGH AFRICA THEME commenced in 2009 with the White Rhinoceros. The critically endangered Black Rhinoceros (Diceros Bicornis) is featured on the 2010 Natura series, and together with the 2009 series, these coins highlight the severe threat these Rhinos now face from poachers who use highly sophisticated equipment and poaching methods.
