In numismatics, Proof-Like (PL) refers to a standard business-strike coin that exhibits highly reflective, mirror-like fields. Although these coins are not intentionally struck as proofs, they acquire their distinctive appearance when minted using new or freshly polished dies, which impart a reflective finish to the coin's surface.
Grading Standards: Professional coin grading services, such as PCGS and NGC, generally require the mirror-like reflectivity to extend across the coin's fields and remain clearly visible from a specified viewing distance for the coin to qualify for a Proof-Like (PL) designation.
