One of the easiest ways to distinguish bullion and Proof Krugerrands is by counting the serrations around the edge of the coin. Standard bullion Krugerrands have 180 serrations, while Proof Krugerrands feature 220 serrations.
Striking Quality & Production
Standard bullion Krugerrands are produced in large quantities—often hundreds of thousands coins—with the emphasis placed on efficient, high-volume production. While quality control remains important, the focus is primarily on producing bullion coins efficiently.
Proof Krugerrands
By contrast, were produced in much smaller numbers and receive considerably more attention during the minting process. Each coin is individually struck, often up to three times, using specially prepared dies to create the sharper details, frosted devices and distinctive mirror-like fields associated with a Proof finish.
