THE ORIGINAL ZUID AFRIKAANSCHE REPUBLIEK MINT 
THIS IS WHERE THE MINTING OF THE AFRIKAANER COINS OF
THE Z A R WERE EVENTUALLY STRUCK

ESTABLISHED 1892 - PRETORIA - THE Z A R MINT
WITHIN THESE WALLS OF THE THEN NEWLY OPENED MINT AND BANK, ACTIVITY WOULD SOON COMMENCE WHICH WOULD ENHANCE THE LARGEST INDUSTRY OF THE ZUID AFRIKAANSCHE REPUBLIEK, NAMELY, GOLD PRODUCTION AND COINAGE.

BELOW IS AN EXTRACT FROM 67 YEAR OLD PRESIDENT PAUL KRUGER'S OPENING SPEECH OF THE MINT AND NATIONAL BANK AT THE LAYING OF THE CORNER STONE IN 1892, IN PRETORIA. A MONUMENTAL EVENT FOR THE ZUID AFRIKAANSCHE REPUBLIEK.

The President Paul Kruger then stood up and said: "Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr Chairman and Board of Directors of the National Bank, Members of the two Volksraads, officials, burghers and friends I declare to have laid this stone truly and properly (cheers resound). Within this corner stone of the buildings of our National Bank and Mint, is the Law of the Land, all public documents connected with the Bank, specimens of the Press of this town including the Staats Kourant of to-day, and the coins of this Republic issued to date. It is a great pleasure and honour to me to perform this duty and although this is not the place and time to speak much about the affairs of the Bank, as it is only a very young institution, yet I must say that it is working its way to a most honourable position, and has scored well so far."
